The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley has been active in the community for almost 140 years. As a connection place for people of all ages, CEO Theresa Hillis says they cater to everyone “from Pampers to Grampers.”
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, most businesses were forced to close down, but the YMCA stayed open for emergency child care. They quickly discovered as an essential business that they would need to upgrade their IT infrastructure in order to be as efficient and effective for the community as possible.
For years, Imagineering has been a continued partner of the YMCA. With Imagineering’s help, the YMCA was able to create a socially distanced space for work, virtual school, and exercise through a global pandemic.
The consultants at Imagineering upgraded the staff’s computers and added laptops to ensure they were able to work remotely and efficiently. Imagineering also worked to boost Wi-Fi signal and availability by adding additional access points throughout the building. This allowed members to access Wi-Fi while exercising, as well as allowing kids to attend virtual classes when schools were closed and their parents were at work.
“Imagineering walked us into the 21st century during the middle of a pandemic,” said Theresa Hillis, CEO. “As much as we were nervous about everything going on, we didn’t have to worry about the process itself. That was really important. And they did it all so quickly for us!”
The pandemic also created a need for additional tech support due to the cancellation of sporting events. For the YMCA’s additional locations in Eau Claire — the Indoor Sports Center and Tennis Center — Imagineering created a way to live stream sporting events and practices so that spectators were still able to watch the activities of their family and friends in a socially distanced manner.
